A COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR ANALYZING AND RATING BRIDGES

THIS PAPER DISCUSSES A SYSTEM THAT WILL PROVIDE COMPUTATIONAL ASSISTANCE IN THE RATING OF LARGE VOLUMES OF HIGHWAY BRIDGES. INCLUDED IN THE DISCUSSION ARE THE BENEFITS TO BE REALIZED WHEN RATING BY A COMPUTER SYSTEM, THE METHODS OF USE, THE TYPES OF RATING BY THE SYSTEM, AND THE TYPES OF STRUCTURES ANALYZED BY THE SYSTEM. A THOROUGH DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF THE SYSTEM SOFTWARE STRUCTURE AND OF THE ANALYSIS CAPABILITIES FOR EACH STEP OF THE RATING PROCESS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE BENEFITS TO BE REALIZED IN USING A COMPUTER BRIDGE RATING SYSTEM ARE SIGNIFICANT IN BOTH DIRECT AND FUTURE PAYBACK AND IN THE OVERALL IMPROVEMENT OF THE STATUS OF HIGHWAY BRIDGES.
