PRACTICAL FORMULAS FOR LOADS AND MOVEMENTS IN BATTERED PILE FOUNDATIONS (WITHOUT A COMPUTER)

THE SEVERAL FORMULAS PRESENTED IN THIS ARTICLE ARE APPLICABLE FOR ANY NUMBER OF BATTER PILES IN ANY ARRANGEMENT OF ROWS AND LINES. THEY ARE BASED ON LOADS TAKEN ENTIRELY BY AXIAL PILE RESISTANCE ONLY, WITH NO RELIANCE ON LATERAL RESISTANCE OF PILES. THE METHOD APPLIES TO EITHER TRANSVERSE OR LONGITUDINAL LOADING. THREE STEPS ARE FOLLOWED: CALCULATE "PILE GROUP RESISTANCE AREAS," CALCULATE COEFFICIENTS FROM THESE "AREAS" AND CALCULATE PILE LOADS AND MOVEMENTS FROM THE FORMULAS.
