ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS

THE AIM OF THE WORK DESCRIBED IN THIS REPORT WAS TO PROVIDE A PRACTICAL METHOD FOR THE DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS. TO THIS END, EXTENSIVE STUDIES OF THE BEHAVIOR OF SUCH COLUMNS HAVE BEEN MADE, USING A COMPUTER MODEL. THESE STUDIES CONFIRMED THE SUITABILITY OF THE DESIGN METHOD PRESENTED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMITTEE FOR CONCRETE. THIS METHOD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND REFINED TO ACHIEVE BOTH SIMPLICITY IN USE AND, AS FAR AS POSSIBLE, A REALISTIC REPRESENTATION OF ACTUAL BEHAVIOR. EXTENSIVE COMPARISONS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH THE RESULTS OF TESTS ON ACTUAL COLUMNS, PROVIDING FINAL CONFIRMATION OF THE VALIDITY OF THE METHOD. THE METHOD IS RECOMMENDED FOR GENERAL USE. /AUTHOR/
