CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE

ALTHOUGH MOST CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES HAVE BEEN OF STEEL CONSTRUCTION, A FEW HAVE BEEN MADE OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE. CASE STUDIES ARE PRESENTED OF SEVERAL SUCH BRIDGES BUILT SINCE 1962---THE LAKE MARACAIBO BRIDGE IN VENEZUELA, THE POLCEVERA VIADUCT IN GENOA, THE WADI KUF BRIDGE IN LIBYA, THE MAGLIANA VIADUCT AT THE ROME AIRPORT, AND THREE STRUCTURES IN THE DESIGN STAGE: THE DANISH GREAT BELT BRIDGE, THE RIVER FOYLE BRIDGE IN IRELAND, AND THE INTERCONTINENTAL PEACE BRIDGE ACROSS THE BEARING STRAIT--- WITH THE INTENT OF ENCOURAGING DESIGNERS TO CONSIDER THE FEASIBILITY OF EMPLOYING SUCH A STRUCTURE IN SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS.
