NONSTATIONARY RANDOM COLUMN BUCKLING PROBLEM

THE BUCKLING OF A UNIFORM SLENDER COLUMN IS CONSIDERED WHEN THE INITIAL DEFLECTION SHAPE OF THE COLUMN IS AN ENSEMBLE MEMBER OF A NONSTATIONARY PROCESS. THE RESULT IS THAT THE DEFORMATION OF THE COLUMN IS ALSO A NONSTATIONARY RANDOM PROCESS. THE MEAN SQUARE DEFLECTION SHAPE IS CALCULATED FOR A PARTICULAR FORM OF INITIAL DEFLECTION AUTOCORRELATION FUNCTION AS A FUNCTION OF AXIAL LOAD. THE PROBABILITY OF THE COLUMN MIDPOINT DEFLECTION EXCEEDING A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT VALUES IS ALSO CALCULATED AND PRESENTED. /ASCE/
