FULL SCALE LOAD TEST OF A PRESTRESSED FOLDED PLATE UNIT

A FULL SIZED PRECAST POST-TENSIONED LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE FOLDED PLATE UNIT WAS LOAD TESTED. THE FOLDED PLATE HAD A V SECTION WITH 4.24 IN. (10.8 CM) THICK AND 101.5 IN. (2.58 M) WIDE INCLINED PLATES. THE SPAN WAS 101 FT (30.78 M). THE UNIT FAILED AT A SUPERIMPOSED LOAD EQUIVALENT TO 34PSF (166 KGF/MSQUARE) OR 62 PERCENT OF THE ALLOWABLE TEST LOAD BY BUCKLING OF ONE OF THE INCLINED PLATES. A ROUGH ANALYSIS OF THE CRITICAL STRESS OF THE INCLINED PLATE IS PRESENTED. THE STRENGTH OF THE CORNERS AND THE SAFETY FACTOR AGAINST BUCKLING ARE ALSO REVIEWED. /AUTHOR/
