JOHN F KENNEDY MEMORIAL HIGHWAY, I-95, MARYLAND-DELAWARE SATELLITE ROAD TEST

THE INITIAL PHASE OF THE MARYLAND-DELAWARE AASHO ROAD TEST STUDY CONSISTED OF /1/ SELECTION OF THE TEST SECTIONS, /2/ DOCUMENTATION OF THE TEST SECTIONS IN TERMS OF LOCATION, ENVIRONMENT AND MATERIAL PROPERTIES, AND /3/ ESTABLISHMENT OF INITIAL SERVICEABILITY INDEXES AND COMPOSITE STRENGTHS. FIFTEEN, 12,000-FOOT LONG TEST SECTIONS LOCATED IN THE BALTIMORE-BOUND ROADWAY OF THE JOHN F KENNEDY MEMORIAL HIGHWAY WERE SELECTED. ELEVEN OF THE SECTIONS, SIX RIGID AND FIVE FLEXIBLE, ARE IN MARYLAND AND THE REMAINING FOUR, ALL RIGID, ARE IN DELAWARE. THE TYPE OF ROADBED SOIL VARIES. WHEREVER APPLICABLE, THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FOR EACH OF THE FIFTEEN TEST SECTIONS WILL BE GIVEN' /1/ LOCATION, GRADE, PLAN, PROFILE AND CROSS-SECTION, /2/ GEOLOGICAL AND AGRICULTURE SOIL DATA, /3/ SAMPLING LOCATIONS AND RESULTS OF TESTS ON ROADBED SOIL, SUBBASE, BASE AND SURFACE COURSE MATERIALS, AND /4/ INITIAL SERVICEABILITY INDEX, ROUGHNESS INDEX, BENKELMAN BEAM DEFLECTIONS AND SKID RESISTANCE DATA. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE USED IN THE APPLICATION OF THE AASHO ROAD TEST EQUATIONS TO PAVEMENT DESIGN IN MARYLAND AND DELAWARE. /BPR/
