THE APPLICATION OF ELASTIC THEORY TO THE DESIGN OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS (LAYERS SYSTEM) IS DISCUSSED. SOME OF THE RESULTS OF THE WORK BEING DEVELOPED BY THE ROAD RESEARCH INSTITUTE (RRI) ARE PRESENTED INCLUDING: (1) PAVEMENT DESIGN, (2) SOIL RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT, (3) APPLICATION OF THE GEUFFROIS AND BACHELEZ THEORY AND JONES'S THEORY, (4) VARIATIONS OF STRUCTURAL FACTORS, (5) APPLICATION OF LAND CAPACITY THEORIES TO DETERMINE MINIMUM THICKNESS OF BITU- MINOUS SURFACING ON GRANULAR BASES, AND (6) FLEXURE AND TENSILE STRESS IN BITUMINOUS COATINGS. /RRI/
