THE PROPULSOR OF THE PUMP TYPE FOR SHIPS

A study of the propulsor of the pump type shows that in individual cases they may have practical advantages over screw propellers. An interesting feature of pump type propulsors is that, in terms of their hydrodynamic performance, they are essentially high speed axial pumps. The nature of the pressure and velocity changes in such propulsors is determined by the fact that at the intake of the flow of the pump an increase in the speed of the flow takes place, but not in its pressure, as in ordinary pumps.
