EXPERIENCES ON ECONOMIC PAVING AND ANTI-DUST TREATMENTS IN THE STATE OF PARANA AND FEDERAL DISTRICT

THE CLASSICAL PAVING METHODS ARE NOT ALWAYS SATISFACTORY FOR THE PRESENT NEEDS AND THE BUDGETARY LIMITATIONS IMPOSED BY THE PUBLIC AGENCIES. NEW ECONOMIC METHODS OF ROAD PAVING HAVE BEEN RESEARCHED WHICH ALLOW FOR GREATER FLEXIBILITY AND MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO REDUCE THE BASE THICKNESS. TWO PROCESSES HAVE BEEN SELECTED: (1) DOUBLE SURFACE TREATMENT WITH A MEDIUM BREAKING POINT EMULSION AND SAND, AND (2) DOUBLE OR TRIPLE TREATMENT WITH STONES 12.5-25 MM, 5-12.5 MM, SAND AND A HIGH-SPEED BREAKING POINT ASPHALT EMULSION WITH RUBBER LATEX. THE BASE THICKNESS REQUIRED FOR THIS SORT OF PAVING IS, AT LEAST, FIVE TIMES THINNER THAN THE ONE USED IN THE CLASSICAL PROCESSES OF PAVING. /RRI/
