1966 TEST RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE M. I. 'APPLICATION OF THE RUBBER-TIRED ROLLER' (IN DUTCH)

THE RESULTS ARE PRESENTED OF A FIELD STUDY ON A SERIES OF TEST SECTIONS CARRIED OUT UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A SPECIAL COMMITTEE CALLED THE APPLICATION OF THE RUBBER-TIRED ROLLER OF THE DUTCH STUDY CENTER FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION. THE MAIN OBJECT OF THESE FIRST TRIALS WAS A COMPARISON REGARDING ACHIEVED DENSITY BETWEEN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CONVENTIONAL STEEL WHEELED ROLLER AND THE RUBBER-TIRED ROLLER ON A HOT-MIX BASE COURSE MIX, A HOT SAND ASPHALT MIX ON A CEMENT-STABILIZED SANDY SUBBASE. THE TEST SECTIONS WERE LOCATED ON 3 DIFFERENT HIGHWAYS IN THE NETHERLANDS HAVING A DIFFERENT TYPE OF SUBBASE, NAMELY SAND ASPHALT, SOIL CEMENT AND SAND GRAVEL RESPECTIVELY. THE BASE COURSE MIX STUDIED WAS LAID DOWN IN 2 THICKNESSES NAMELY 6 AND 12 CM (2.4 AND 4.8 INCH). BESIDES THE TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS AND ACCOUNTING OF THE ROLL PASSES DURING CONSTRUCTION, THE DENSITY WAS STUDIED ON BORED SAMPLES AND BY MEANS OF THE ROAD VIBRATION MACHINE OF THE STATE ROAD LABORATORY. /RRL/
