EVALUATION AND PREDICTION OF THE TENSILE PROPERTIES OF ASPHALT-TREATED MATERIALS

THE SEVEN FACTORS INVESTIGATED WERE AGGREGATE TYPE, AGGREGATE GRADATION, ASPHALT VISCOSITY, ASPHALT CONTENT MIXING TEMPERATURE, COMPACTION TEMPERATURE, AND CURING TEMPERATURE. THE TEST RESPONSES DISCUSSED ARE ELASTIC TENSILE STRAIN, MODULUS OF ELASTICITY, POISSON'S RATIO, AND TOTAL TENSILE STRAIN. THE RESULTS OF ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE INDICATE THE SIGNIFICANT MAIN EFFECTS, INTERACTION, AND QUADRATIC EFFECTS (NONLINEAR) FOR EACH OF THE TEST RESPONSES. REGRESSION ANALYSES WERE CONDUCTED ON THOSE MAIN EFFECTS AND INTERACTION WHICH WERE CONSIDERED TO BE OF PRACTICAL ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE TO OBTAIN PREDICTION EQUATIONS FOR MODULUS OF ELASTICITY, POISSON'S RATIO, TENSILE STRENGTH, AND TENSILE STRAINS IN TERMS OF THE SEVEN INDEPENDENT VARIABLES. THESE PREDICTION EQUATIONS WERE USED TO ESTIMATE VALUES OF THE MATERIAL CHARACTERIZATION CONSTANTS FOR A VARIETY OF LEVELS OF THE SEVEN INDEPENDENT VARIABLES. THE ESTIMATED VALUES ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM AND IN SETS OF CURVES WHICH CAN BE USED TO READILY OBTAIN ESTIMATES OF MODULUS OF ELASTICITY, POISSON'S RATIO, TENSILE STRENGTH, AND FAILURE STRAINS FOR A VARIETY OF ASPHALT- TREATED MATERIALS. /AUTHOR/
