MEASUREMENT OF RESISTANCE, ICE LOADS, AND ICE CHARACTERISTICS ON THE USCGC MACKINAW
Experimental runs were made in ice of varying thickness at a number of different velocities and power levels to determine the effects of these and other varibles on the resistance encountered by the ship. In addition, measurements of strain were made on the hull from which the force exerted on the hull by the ice was determined for each data point. The relationship force to other variables was also developed. The results of the trials are presented in the form of functions of a number of nondimensional variables. (Author)
