EFFICIENCY IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION. A REPORT BY A WORKING PARTY OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING

ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION SECTOR OF THE CIVIL ENGINEERING INDUSTRY WAS STUDIED, ESPECIALLY IN RELATION TO COSTS AND PRODUCTIVITY. WAYS OF IMPROVING ITS EFFICIENCY AND PERFORMANCE WERE CONSIDERED. EXAMINATION WAS MADE OF THE TRENDS OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION COSTS AND PRICES, AND THE REASONS FOR THEM. METHODS OF MEASURING PRODUCTIVITY IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION WERE CONSIDERED AND THE MOST APPROPRIATE SELECTED. TRENDS IN PRODUCTIVITY WERE EXAMINED. ACTION TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY AND REDUCE COSTS WAS CONSIDERED. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WAS GIVEN ALSO TO THE STRUCTURE OF INDUSTRY, TECHNICAL POLICY, DESIGN AND SUPERVISION, CONTRACTURAL RELATIONSHIPS, PLANNING PROCEDURES AND LAND REQUISITION.
