PHYSIOGRAPHIC ZONES IN GEORGIA, PHASE ONE INTERIM REPORT

THE STATE OF GEORGIA HAS BEEN DIVIDED (ALONG COUNTY BOUNDARIES) INTO FOUR PLANTING ZONES FOR THE STUDY OF PLANTS, PROJECT 6907, G.A.E.S. PROJECT 3-413. IN ARRIVING AT LIMITS OF THESE ZONES FULL CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO THE PREVIOUS COMPOSITION OF ZONES, THE AVAILABLE SOILS AND CLIMATIC DATA, OPINIONS OF KNOWLEDGEABLE TECHNICAL PEOPLE, AND OBSERVATIONS OF SUCCESSFUL ROADSIDE PLANTINGS. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE PROPOSED ZONES WILL PERMIT BETTER SEPARATION OF DIFFERENCES IN PLANT RESPONSES. COMPARISON OF DATA, COLLECTED DURING PROGRESS OF THIS PROJECT, WITHIN AND BETWEEN ZONES WILL VALIDATE OR REPUDIATE THE DECISIONS MADE AS TO ZONE LIMITS. /AUTHOR/
