CHARACTERISTICS AND ADAPTABILITY OF SPECIES AND CULTIVARS OF SHADE AND ORNAMENTAL TREES WITH EMPHASIS ON STREET AND HIGHWAY LANDSCAPE USE

TREE EVALUATION PLOTS WERE ESTABLISHED IN THE SECREST ARBORETUM AT THE OHIO AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN THE SPRING OF 1966 WITH EIGHT EACH OF SEVERAL TREE SELECTIONS PLANTED IN A RANDOMIZED PATTERN ON THE SITE. OTHERS HAVE BEEN ADDED SINCE THAT TIME; AT PRESENT THE COLLECTION CONTAINS 69 SPECIES AND CULTIVARS. THIS COLLECTION IS BEING STUDIED FOR RESEARCH DATA AND ALSO PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR INTERESTED PEOPLE TO OBSERVE AND MAKE PERSONAL EVALUATIONS. ANOTHER PHASE OF THIS PROJECT INVOLVES THE EVALUATION OF EXISTING STREET TREES IN FIVE OHIO CITIES. THESE TREES AND THEIR LOCATIONS ARE LISTED.
