ESTABLISHMENT OF VEGETATION

ROADSIDE VEGETATION STUDIES WERE CONDUCTED ON SPECIES EVALUATION, FERTILITY AND LIMING STUDIES, MULCHING PRACTICES, AND MISCELLANEOUS MANAGEMENT PRACTICES. A SURVEY WAS MADE OF INDIGENOUS PLANTS TO DETERMINE WHICH WOULD BE OF VALUE FOR HIGHWAY PLANTING. VOL. 1 OF THIS REPORT COVERS THE AGRONOMY SECTION OF THE RESEARCH. VOL. 2 COVERS THE PLANT SURVEY AND PLANTING PRACTICES. THE RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENTS ARE REPORTED AND DISCUSSED. A LIST OF SUITABLE PLANTS, WITH SIZES AND PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS HAS BEEN DRAWN UP. RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE FOR STANDARD PRACTICES AND AREAS WHERE FURTHER RESEARCH IS NEEDED ARE INDICATED.
