RAPID MEASUREMENT OF COMPACTION AT JOINTS FOR BITUMINOUS CONCRETE PAVING

THE MUTUAL CONCERN FOR SOLVING JOINT CONSTRUCTION PROBLEMS BY THE NATIONAL BITUMINOUS CONCRETE ASSOCIATION, THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS AND THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE BUREAU OF PUBLIC ROADS LED TO THE ORGANIZATION OF A COOPERATIVE RESEARCH STUDY DURING THE 1963 CONSTRUCTION SEASON. THIS COOPERATIVE STUDY IN WHICH NBCA CONTRACTORS, THREE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS AND OUR BUREAU PARTICIPATED APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN TIMELY. YOUR ASSOCIATION HAD ALREADY INITIATED A RELATED RESEARCH STUDY OF THE QUALITY OF JOINTS OBTAINED WITH SEVERAL CONSTRUCTION METHODS . MY REPORT HERE TODAY IS A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE ANALYSIS WORK WHICH HAS BEEN COMPLETED BY PUBLIC ROADS TO DATA ON THIS JOINT CONSTRUCTION STUDY AND ALSO INCLUDES SOME INFORMATION ABOUT RAPID FIELD MEASUREMENTS OF COMPACTION. /NAPA/
