FRACTURES OF MONOCALCIUM ALUMINATE AND HIGH ALUMINA CEMENT PASTES, HYDRATED AT 30 DEG C (DICALCIUM ALUMINATE HYDRATE) 12 DEG C (MONOCALCIUM ALUMINATE HYDRATE) ARE EXAMINED BY ELECTRON MICROSCOPY. WATER-CEMENT RATIO DETERMINES THE SPECIMEN POROSITY. HYDRATES ARE WELL CRYSTALLIZED NEAR THE PORES. THE FORMATION OF MONO-CALCIUM ALUMINATE HYDRATE RESULTS FROM THE REACTION BETWEEN SOLUTION AND ANHYDROUS MATERIAL, WHILE DICALCIUM ALUMINATE HYDRATE IS ABLE TO PRECIPIATE FROM THE BULK SOLUTION. /AUTHOR
