HIGHWAYS DRAINAGE - CULVERTS

THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORK ON HIGHWAY DRAINAGE IS TO MAKE SOME OBSERVATIONS ON COMMON METHODS OF CULVERTS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. EMPHASIS IS LAID ON HYDRAULIC DESIGN, IN WHICH SOME SIMPLE THEORETICAL CONSIDERATION MIGHT PROVE ECONOMICAL AND ENSURE EFFICIENT DRAINAGE. CRITICISMS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE ON THE BASIS OF OBSERVATIONS OF SEVERAL HIGHWAY DRAINAGE PROJECTS IN WHICH DIVERSE CRITERIA WERE USED OWING TO THE ABSENCE OF EITHER SMALL SPECIFICATIONS OR SET OFFICIAL NORMS ON THE SUBJECT. DESIGN ASPECTS OF RAIN CYCLES, DISCHARGE RATES, FLOW RATE, AND DECLIVITY ARE DISCUSSED. THE RELEVANCE OF THE DISCUSSION TO STANDARDIZATION IS STRESSED. /RRI/
