GEOLOGY APPLIED TO THE LOCATION OF DEEP DRAINS

THE DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS OF WATER ON THE VARIOUS TYPES OF PAVEMENTS ARE LARGELY RECOGNIZED, NOT ONLY BY THE DAMAGES CAUSED, BUT ALSO BY THE NEGATIVE MANNER IN WHICH THEY INCREASE THE DESIGN AND MAINTENANCE COSTS OF HIGHWAYS. TO CURB THIS EFFECT A RELATIVELY HIGH HIGHWAY INVESTMENT IS NECESSARY. BECAUSE OF THIS IT IS URGENT, TO LIMIT THE PLACES WHICH IN SPECIAL CONDITIONS, MAY FORM GROUNDWATER DEPOSITS ECONOMICALLY PREJUDICIAL TO DETERMINED HIGHWAY, IN ITS DESIGN AND MAINTENANCE. HYDROGEOLOGY IN BRAZIL HAS BEEN DEVELOPING, ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF LOCATION AND EXPLORATION OF THE HYDRIC WATER DEPOSITS FOR HUMAN AND INDUSTRIAL USES. ITS APPLICATION FOR DEEP DRAINS, HOWEVER, IS NONEXISTENT. ADVANTAGE WAS TAKEN OF THIS BRANCH OF KNOWLEDGE BY APPLYING IT TO DEEP DRAINAGE OF HIGHWAYS. IN THIS WORK THE PRACTICAL AND THEORICAL DATA WERE CORRELATED WHICH WOULD ALLOW CONTRIBUTION TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE TECHNIQUE OF LOCATING DEEP DRAINS, THUS GIVING A BETTER PROFIT, MORE EFFICIENCY, AS WELL AS A DEFINITION OF THE ZONES WHICH REALLY NEED TO RECEIVE DRAINS. /RRI/
