GENERAL REPORT ON NEW IDEAS AND SCIENTIFIC METHODS IN DETERMINISTIC PARAMETRIC, DYNAMIC, PHYSICAL OR ANALYTICAL HYDROLOGY

A GENERAL SURVEY IS PRESENTED OF THE SYMPOSIUM ON NEW IDEAS AND SCIENTIFIC METHODS IN DETERMINISTIC HYDROLOGY. REPORTS PRESENTED DISCUSSED THE HYDROLOGIC CYCLE REPRESENTING THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF THE CIRCULATION AND REDISTRIBUTION OF WATER BY THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE EARTH. THE RUNOFF CYCLE IS THAT PART OF THE HYDROLOGIC CYCLE BETWEEN RAINFALL AND RUNOFF. A GENERAL REVIEW OF MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF CATCHMENT BEHAVIOR WAS PRESENTED. THE DEVELOPMENT WAS PRESENTED OF A SUBROUTINE OF THE STANFORD MODEL TO EVALUATE THE ELEMENTS OF HYDROLOGIC TRANSPORT OF RADIOACTIVE AEROSOL. DISCUSSIONS WERE PRESENTED ON: INFILTRATION, OVERLAND FLOW, SHEET EROSION, RUNOFF, EVAPOTRANSPIRATION, AND FLOOD ROUTING. THE TRANSPORT OF MOMENTUM, ENERGY AND MASS WAS EXEMPLIFIED IN SEVERAL PHASES OF THE RUNOFF CYCLE. THE MOMENTUM BALANCE GAVE THE DYNAMIC EQUATIONS FOR OVERLAND FLOW AND FLOOD ROUTING. THE RADIANT ENERGY TRANSPORT WAS EXEMPLIFIED BY THE TRANSPORT OF RADIOACTIVE AEROSOLS AND IN THE EVAPOTRANSPIRATION. THE MASS BALANCES WERE SATISFIED FOR EACH SPECIES CONSIDERED: THEY GAVE THE UNSTEADY FLOW CONTINUITY EQUATION FOR THE OVERLAND FLOW AND FOR THE FLOOD ROUTING, THEY WERE SATISFIED IN THE TRANSPORT OF SEDIMENT, AND IN THE IRRIGATION WATER BALANCE.
