RAINFALL INTENSITY-DURATION-FREQUENCY CURVES FOR SELECTED STATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES, ALASKA, HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, AND PUERTO RICO

A SET OF RAINFALL INTENSITY-DURATION CURVES ARE PRESENTED FOR DURATIONS OF 5 MINUTES TO 24 HOURS, AND RETURN PERIODS OF 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 AND 100 YEARS FOR EACH OF 203 U.S. WEATHER BUREAU STATIONS. DATA WERE COLLECTED ALMOST ENTIRELY FROM TIPPING-BUCKET GAGES, WITH SOME DATA FROM WEIGHING- RECORDERS. NO EVALUATION WAS MADE OF GAGE EXPOSURES, OR CHANGES IN GAGE EXPOSURE AT THE STATIONS. THE CURVES IN THE DIAGRAMS ARE SPACED ACCORDING TO THE FISHER-TIPPETT TYPE I (GUMBEL) DISTRIBUTION. ON THE BASIS OF A SELECTED SAMPLE OF 50 PRECIPITATION STATIONS, EMPIRICAL FACTORS HAVE BEEN FOUND FOR TRANSFORMING THE ANNUAL SERIES TO THE PARTIAL-DURATION SERIES. FACTORS ARE PRESENTED TO TRANSFORM VALUES FROM THE CURVES TO CORRESPONDING PARTIAL-DURATION VALUES.
