MAGNITUDE AND FREQUENCY OF MISSOURI FLOODS - WATER RESOURCES REPORT

RESULTS ARE PRESENTED OF A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF AVAILABLE FLOODFLOW INFORMATION FROM STREAMS IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI. EQUATIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR ESTIMATING THE MAGNITUDE OF FUTURE FLOODS WITH RECURRENCE INTERVALS OF 1.2, 2.33, 5, 10, 25, AND 50 YEARS OF UNGAGED SITES ON MOST MISSOURI STREAMS. ONLY TWO BASIN CHARACTERISTICS, DRAINAGE AREA AND THE AVERAGE SLOPE OF THE STREAM, ARE REQUIRED TO SOLVE THE EQUATIONS. THE APPENDICES TO THE REPORT CONTAIN INFORMATION ON PEAK STAGES AND DISCHARGES AT GAGING STATIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS SITES, AND FLOOD-FREQUENCY DATA FOR GAGING STATIONS. /AUTHOR/
