SELECTED MULTIVARIATE STATISTICAL METHODS APPLIED TO RUNOFF DATA FROM MONTANA WATERSHEDS

A PRELIMINARY STUDY OF APPLICATION OF A PRINCIPAL COMPONENT ANALYSIS WITH VARIMAX ROTATION OF THE PRINCIPAL FACTORS WAS PERFORMED FOR FIVE SMALL WATERSHEDS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN MONTANA WITH 50 RECORDED STORM EVENTS. THE ANALYSES PROVIDED INFORMATION ABOUT THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF 29 INDEPENDENT VARIABLES TO THE PEAK DISCHARGE RATES AND RUNOFF VOLUMES. PREDICTION EQUATIONS FOR PEAK RATES RUNOFF AND RUNOFF VOLUME FOR UNGAGED WATERSHEDS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN MONTANA WERE SUGGESTED. /AUTHOR/
