A CONTRIBUTION TO THE INVESTIGATION OF THE PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE, BY MEANS OF RADIOISOTOPES /IN GREEK/

AN INVESTIGATION WAS CARRIED OUT INTO THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE COMPRESIVE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE AND ITS RADIATION "PERMEABILITY". DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A SERIES OF TESTS ON CONCRETE AND MORTAR SPECIMENS SUBJECTED TO RADIATION MEASUREMENTS. THE PARAMETERS STUDIED WERE WATER/ CEMENT RATIO, NATURE OF AGGREGATES, AGGREGATE GRADING, COMPACTION METHOD, MOISTURE CONTENT OF HARDENED CONCRETE, AND AGE OF CONCRETE. RESULTS ARE GIVEN, AND A SET OF EXPERIMENTAL CURVES, PRESENTED UNDER SEPARATE COVER, SHOWING THE CORRELATION FOR THE VARIOUS PARAMETERS STUDIED IS PRESENTED. BASED ON THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA OBTAINED, A METHOD OF NON-DESTRUCTIVE MEASUREMENTS OF CONCRETE STRENGTH BY MEANS OF RADIO-PERMEABILITY TESTS IS PROPOSED TOGETHER WITH A TECHNIQUE FOR PREDICTING THE FINAL STRENGTH OF CONCRETE BY MEASUREMENTS CARRIED OUT SOME HOURS AFTER ITS PLACING. /RRL/
