THE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE UNDER SHORT-TERM STATIC BIAXIAL STRESS

THE RESULTS OF SHORT-TERM STATIC LOAD TESTS ON FULLY SATURATED PLAIN CONCRETE SPECIMENS UNDER BIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE AND COMPRESSIVE-TENSILE STATES OF STRESS ARE DESCRIBED. PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS PAID TO THE GENERAL THREE-DIMENSIONAL ELASTIC THEORY. THE ULTIMATE AND DISCONTINUITY STRESS ENVELOPES OBTAINED AND THE CRACK PATTERNS OBSERVED ARE SHOWN, AND CERTAIN HYPOTHESES OF FRACTURE MECHANISMS AND FAILURE CRITERIA ARE PROPOSED. /A/RRL/
