AMERICAN PRACTICE IN PROPORTIONING LIGHTWEIGHT - AGGREGATE CONCRETE

AFTER OUTLINING THE ABSORPTION PROPERTIES AND BULK SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE, THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE STANDARD AC1613A-59 AS A PROPORTIONING METHOD FOR LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE. A LABORATORY STUDY OF THE MODIFIED ACI PROCEDURE IS DESCRIBED WHICH TAKES ACCOUNT OF THE VARIABLE MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE AGGREGATE, AND IT IS SHOWN THAT LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE MAY BE PROPORTIONED WITH CONSIDERABLE ACCURACY REGARDLESS OF THIS VARIABLE MOISTURE CONTENT. /RRL/
