A NEW METHOD FOR MEASURING THE UNIT WEIGHT OF AGGREGATES

THE NEW MEASURING METHOD DEVELOPED AT THE STATE INSTITUTE FOR TECHNICAL RESEARCH IN FINLAND IS DESCRIBED. THE MEASUREMENT IS CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF A DEVICE CONSISTING OF TWO VESSELS FILLED WITH SAMPLE AGGREGATE, WHICH ARE DROPPED A GIVEN NUMBER OF TIMES FROM A HEIGHT OF 3 CM. ON TO A HARD BASE TO COMPACT THE AGGREGATE. THE HEIGHT OF THE AGGREGATE IN THE VESSEL IS THEN ASSESSED BY A MEASURING PIN LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE VESSEL. AS THE VESSEL DIMENSIONS ARE CONSTANT THE VOLUME OF THE SAMPLE AND ITS UNIT WEIGHT CAN THEN BE CALCULATED. /RRL/
