DESIGN OF COMPOSITION FOR LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE CONCRETES

CHOICE OF ADEQUATE INVESTIGATION METHODS, CHARACTERISTICS TO BE EXAMINED & MEANS OF EVALUATION, WILL ENABLE MORE EXPERIMENTS TO RECONCILE THE SO FAR CONTRADICTORY RESULTS OF LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE TESTS FOUND IN THE LITERATURE. EXTENSIVE RESEARCH WORK IS PERFORMED TO DETERMINE THE INHERENT STRENGTH OF LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES. DIFFERENT PRELIMINARY TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT TO PROVE FORMULA FOR PREDICTING CONCRETE STRENGTH DEVELOPED ON THE BASIS OF THE ABOVE TESTS AND OF A STATISTICAL MODEL SKETCH OF STRESSES ARISING IN CONCRETE. THE PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTS SEEM TO VERIFY THE APPLICABILITY OF THE FORMULA, AS IN TESTS MADE WITH DIFFERENT LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATES A DEFINITE FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIP COULD BE FOUND BETWEEN THE EFFECTIVE CONCRETE STRENGTHS AND THOSE COMPUTED BY THE FORMULA SUGGESTED. TO MODIFY OR REFINE ON THIS BASIS THE INTERPRETATION OF THIS FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIP FROM THE ASPECT OF CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY, AND THE PROPOSED FORMULA, FURTHER COMPREHENSIVE TEST SERIES HAVE BEEN PLANNED. /LCPC/A/RRL/
