GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON PART OF THE M.90 KELTY BY-PASS

A RESISTIVITY SURVEY WAS CARRIED OUT ON PART OF THE PRO- POSED ROUTE OF THE M.90 KELTY BY-PASS TO ASSIST IN LOCATING OLD MINES BELOW THE MOTORWAY. A TERRAIN MODEL WAS PRODUCED COMBINING ALL AVAILABLE INFORMATION FROM BOREHOLE LOGS, GEOLOGICAL MAPS AND MEMOIRS AND THE RESULTS OF THE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT, DESPITE THE COMPLEXITY OF THE AREA, THE RESISTIVITY DATA HAVE PROVIDED THE INFORMATION NEEDED FOR ROAD PLANNING ON THE PRESENCE OF WORKED AND UNWORKED SEAMS OF COAL NEAR THE GROUND SURFACE. THE COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR TREND SURFACE ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF VERTICAL ELECTRICAL SOUNDINGS ARE DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
