DURABILITY OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETES /IN SPANISH/

TESTS MADE WITH 5 TYPES OF CEMENT, IN WHICH THEY WERE ACTED ON BY SULPHATES OF DIFFERENT STRENGTHS AND TEMPERATURES ARE DESCRIBED. A LOSS OF STRENGTH WAS FOUND WHICH IN SOME CASES CAUSED DISINTEGRATION A YEAR AFTER THE TEST. TO FIND A REMEDY, TESTS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH THE ADDITION OF POZZOLANA, AND SURFACE PAINTING WITH EPOXY, THE ASPHALTIC PAINTS NOT GIVING GOOD RESULTS. IN ANOTHER SERIES OF TESTS, THE ACTION ON AGGREGATES WAS STUDIED OF CEMENTS WITH DIFFERENT ALKALI CONTENTS. THE ADDITIONS GIVE RISE TO AN EXPANSION PROPORTIONAL TO THE ALKALI CONTENT OF THE CEMENT AND IN MANY CASES TO NOTABLE CRACKING. /LTE/LCPC/RRL/
