HEAT TREATMENT OF CONCRETE

THE THERMODYNAMIC AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL ASPECTS WHICH SERVE AS BASIS FOR THE FAST THERMAL TREATMENTS UTILIZED IN THE CURING AND HARDENING OF CONCRETE ARE DISCUSSED. CONSIDERATION IS ALSO GIVEN TO THE TECHNIQUE AND COST OF SUCH TREATMENTS. AS EXAMPLES, VARIOUS PROCESSES ARE DESCRIBED, AND MENTION IS MADE OF THE LIMITS OF THE RANGE OF NUMERICAL VALUES OF THE VARIABLES INVOLVED IN THESE PROCESSES. THE MORE FREQUENT MEAN VALUES ARE QUOTED. THESE VALUES SHOULD BE THE STARTING POINT TO DETERMINE EXPERIMENTALLY THE BEST OPERATING CONDITION IN EACH PARTICULAR CASE. AN ACCOUNT IS GIVEN OF THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE AUTHOR, IN CONNECTION WITH THIS TECHNOLOGY, AND A FULL BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED, DEALING WITH THE SUBJECT SINCE 1934. IT SHOULD BE EMPHASIZED THAT THE EXAMPLES AND THE NUMERICAL VALUES MENTIONED IN THIS TEXT HAVE A GENERAL AND INFORMATIVE SIGNIFICANCE, BUT THEY NEED NOT COINCIDE WITH THE BEST RESULTS THAT MAY ARISE IN PRACTICE.
