CORROSION PROTECTION OF THE REINFORCEMENT IN LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE

THE CAUSE AND NATURE OF THE CORROSION PHENOMENA AFFECTING REINFORCEMENT EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE ARE DISCUSSED, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF THE FORMATION AND DESTRUCTION OF THE COATING WHICH HAS A PASSIVATING EFFECT ON THE STEEL. THE CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE ARE DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OF THE CONCRETE AND ASPECTS OF PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY. PROBLEMS OF THE CORROSION PROTECTION OF REINFORCEMENT IN HIGH-STRENGTH (STRUCTURAL) LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE IS ANALYZED. SOME METHODS CURRENTLY EMPLOYED FOR THE PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION OF THE REINFORCEMENT IN LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETES CHARACTERIZED BY BULK POROSITY AND IN AERATED CONCRETE ARE DESCRIBED AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF PRACTICAL APPLICATION ARE CRITICALLY EXAMINED.
