APPARATUS FOR MEASURING SURFACE IRREGULARITIES /IN SPANISH/

ROUGHNESS INDICES AND VEHICLE SUSPENSION TRANSFER FUNCTIONS ARE DEFINED. A STUDY IS MADE OF THE GEOMETRIC AND DYNAMIC SYSTEMS OF LONGITUDINAL PROFILE MEASUREMENT. GEOMETRIC APPARATUS MEASURE THE MOVEMENT OF A WHEEL IN RELATION TO A FIXED REFERENCE. THEY ARE ECONOMICAL, SIMPLE, AND PERFECTLY ADEQUATE FOR SHORT DISTANCES OR LOW SPEED ROADS. DYNAMIC APPARATUS CAN BE CLASSIFIED INTO FOUR CATEGORIES DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF MEASUREMENT THEY PROVIDE: (1) DISPLACEMENT OF A WHEEL IN RELATION TO A BASE CONNECTED TO IT, (2) ANGLE FORMED BY A SMALL BEAM RESTING ON TWO WHEELS, (3) VERTICAL ACCELERATIONS, AND (4) OTHER PARAMETERS AS MEASURED WITH THE GENERAL MOTORS PROFILOGRAPH. DYNAMIC APPARATUS ARE EXPENSIVE AND COMPLEX, BUT ARE INDISPENSABLE FOR MEASURING LONG STRETCHES OF ROAD OR HIGH SPEED ROADS. A SECTION IS DEVOTED TO THE STUDY OF TRANSVERSE PROFILOGRAPHS. /TRRL/
