ASSUMPTIONS FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE SHEARING STRENGTH OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SURFACINGS AS A FUNCTION OF LOAD APPLICATION CONDITIONS /IN RUSSIAN/

AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO USE THE VISCOSITY OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AS A CRITERION OF DEFORMABILITY AND RESISTANCE TO DEFORMATION. THIS ARTICLE PRESENTS SOME PROVISIONAL CONCLUSIONS. ALTHOUGH HORIZONTAL FORCES (BRAKING AND TURNING) PLAY AN OBVIOUS ROLE IN SHEAR UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, VERTICAL FORCES MUST ALSO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. ATTENTION MUST BE PAID TO OVERALL LOADING TIME, REPETITION AND DURATION OF IMPULSES, WEATHER CONDITIONS, TRAFFIC VOLUME, TRAFFIC DISTRIBUTION, POSSIBILITIES OF BRAKING AND PARKING, AND HIGH TEMPERATURE (TOTAL NUMBER OF HOT DAYS, DURATION OF A CONTINUOUS HOT SPELL). A FORMULA IS PRESENTED FOR CALCULATING THE CRITICAL DURATION TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT IN THE COMPUTATIONS. /TRRL/LCPC/
