HOW TO CREATE WILDLIFE HABITAT FROM HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION

THE CREATION OF WETLANDS BY HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION OFFERS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP WILDLIFE HABITAT. DUE TO THE RAPID EXPANSION OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT STATE FISH AND GAME AGENCIES FORMULATE PLANS IMMEDIATELY FOR THE UTILIZATION OF THE BYPRODUCTS OF THIS HIGHWAY PROGRAM. WITH APPROPRIATE CONSIDERATIONS DURING THE DESIGNING OF THE HIGHWAY CORRIDOR, AREAS CAN BE CREATED THAT ARE BOTH BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE AND VISUALLY ATTRACTIVE. THESE AREAS WILL ALSO ALLOW BOTH RURAL AND URBAN RESIDENTS THE CHANCE TO OBSERVE AND ENJOY WILDLIFE IN A NATURAL ENVIRONMENT WHILE PRESERVING THE OPEN AREAS THAT ARE SO URGENTLY NEEDED IN OUR URBANIZED SOCIETY.
