DROP INLET SPACING GRAPHS FOR PRELIMINARY HIGHWAY DESIGN

IN THE DESIGN OF A STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM RELATIVE TO THE SPACING OF DROP INLETS, THE DESIGNER INITIALLY POSITIONS THE DROP INLETS AT INTERSECTIONS TO INTERCEPT PAVEMENT RUNOFF BEFORE IT REACHES A CROSS ROAD, LOCATES DROP INLETS AT THE LOW POINTS OF VERTICAL CURVES, AND GENERALLY FOLLOWS A DESIGN APPROACH DICTATED BY COMMON SENSE AND PRESCRIBED CRITERIA. AFTER THE DESIGNER POSITIONS THE INITIAL DROP INLETS HE BEGINS HIS DRAINAGE DESIGN FOR THE INTERMEDIATE DROP INLET SPACING. EXAMPLES OF COMPUTATIONS AND CHARTS ARE GIVEN. ONCE THE CHARTS ARE PREPARED FOR A TYPICAL SECTION, A DRAFTSMAN MAY BE ASSIGNED THE TASK OF PLACING DROP INLETS ON LARGE MUNICIPAL PROJECTS, FREEING AN ENGINEER TO DO OTHER MORE COMPLEX WORK. /AUTHOR/
