A STUDY OF THE ECONOMICS OF SOLID SLAB BALANCED CANTILEVER BRIDGES - A COMPARISON BETWEEN A SOLID SLAB DECK AND A T- BEAM DECK WITH SOLID SECTION NEAR SUPPORTS

A COMPARISON IS MADE BETWEEN TWO TYPES OF SOLID SLAB BALANCED CANTILEVER BRIDGES, ONE WITH DECK HAVING UNIFORM DEPTH THROUGHOUT ITS LENGTH AND THE OTHER WITH DECK HAVING VARIABLE DEPTH AND PARABOLIC SOFFIT. THE DECK WITH UNIFORM DEPTH WAS MORE ECONOMICAL. A NEW TYPE OF DECK WHICH IS A COMBINATION OF T-BEAM AND SOLID SECTION NEAR SUPPORTS. IS INVESTIGATED AND IT IS FOUND TO BE THE CHEAPEST OF ALL REINFORCED CONCRETE DECKS WITHIN THE SPAN LIMIT OF 50 FT TO 90 FT. /AUTHOR/
