MATERIAL AND STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF CONCRETE MIXTURES BY ACOUSTIC SPECTRA ANALYSIS

THE SCOPE OF THIS RESEARCH WAS TO DEVELOP A METHOD THAT COULD BE USED TO DETERMINE MATERIAL BEHAVIOR AND STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF CONCRETE MATERIALS, BY STOCHASTICALLY STUDYING THE SOUND INTENSITIES AND THE SOUND PATTERNS THAT ARE PRODUCED BY CRACKS AND RELATED FAILURES IN THE CONCRETE, DURING THE TIME IT IS GRADUALLY LOADED TO FAILURE. THE SPECIMENS USED IN THIS RESEARCH ARE STANDARD CONCRETE CYLINDERS REPRESENTING CONCRETE MIXTURES OF DEFINITE MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS. THE RESULTS OF THIS RESEARCH HAVE ILLUSTRATED THAT THE METHOD OF ACOUSTIC SPECTRA ANALYSIS CAN BE USED TO DETERMINE BOTH STATIC AND DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF CONCRETE MIXTURES.
