SLAB BRIDGE DESIGN AND DRAWING- AN AUTOMATED PROCESS

SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS IN SLAB BRIDGE DESIGN THAT HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED THROUGH USE OF A COMPUTER PROGRAM ARE DESCRIBED. THIS PROGRAM ANALYZES, DESIGNS DETAILS AND DRAWS RIGHT OR SKEW SLABS OF REINFORCED OR PRESTRESSED CONCRETE. THE IMPROVEMENTS CAN RESULT IN SUBSTANTIAL CONSTRUCTION SAVINGS AND HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED BY MEANS OF AN ACCURATE ANALYSIS USING THE FINITE ELEMENT EMTHOD, AND EXTENSIVE TREATMENT OF THE LOADING, A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF DIFFERENT METHODS OF PLACING REINFORCEMENT OR PRESTRESSING AND BY OPTIMIZATION PROCEDURES WHICH AIM AT MINIMIZING THE COST OF MATERIALS PROVIDED AT DIFFERENT POINTS OF THE SLAB. /AUTHOR/
