BRIDGE DESIGN CONSIDERING SCOUR AND RISK

THE CONCLUSION OF A SINGLE ECONOMIC ANALYSIS IS THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BRIDGE FOUNDATION THAT WOULD BE DESIGNED SO THAT THE BRIDGE IS SAFE FROM THE SCOUR, THAT WOULD OCCUR IN THE MAXIMUM PROBABLE FLOOD. CASES OF PIER SCOUR AND ABUTMENT SCOUR ARE ANALYZED, ASSUMING REASONABLE COSTS OF BRIDGE AND FOUNDATION PILES, FLOOD MAGNITUDE-FREQUENCY RELATIONS PLOTTING AS STRAIGHT LINES ON LOG-NORMAL PAPER, THE RISK OF LOSS DURING THE LIFE OF THE BRIDGE, AND PREDICTION RELATIONS SOMEWHAT VERIFIED IN THE FIELD. /AUTHOR/
