SITE TESTS CLEAR DOUBTS ON BRIDGE FOUNDATIONS

THE METHOD USED TO TEST THE PERFORMANCE OF THE STEEL CASED CLOSED END PILES WHICH SUPPORT THE NEW BRIDGE BEING BUILT ACROSS THE COVENTRY CANAL AT NUNEATON IS DESCRIBED. LOAD WAS APPLIED IN INCREMENTS AND DEFLECTION READINGS WERE TAKEN THROUGHOUT THE TEST AND PLOTTED AGAINST TIME AND LOAD. SETTLEMENT WAS FOUND TO BE INSIGNIFICANT. /RRL/
