PREDICTION OF COLLAPSE LOADINGS FOR COMPOSITE HIGHWAY BRIDGES

A THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE COLLAPSE BEHAVIOR OF SINGLE-SPAN, SIMPLY SUPPORTED, SKEW, COMPOSITE STEEL GIRDERS AND DECK SLAB HIGHWAY BRIDGES IS DESCRIBED. A LOWER BOUND SOLUTION IS DEVELOPED USING THIN PLATE, SMALL DEFLECTION, ELASTIC- PLASTIC STIFFENED PLATE THEORY. DYNAMIC RELAXATION AND LOAD INCREMENTATION ARE USED TO SOLVE SETS OF FINITE DIFFERENCE EQUILIBRIUM EQUATIONS. RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED FROM AN UPPER BOUND YIELD/LINE ANALYSIS AND FROM TESTS ON TWO ONE-SIXTH SCALE MODELS. /RRL (A)/
