COLD MIX PAVING MIXTURES WITH CATIONIC EMULSIONS /IN PORTUGUESE/

TECHNOLOGY OF COLD MIX PAVING MIXTURES WITH CATIONIC EMULSIONS HAS PROGRESSED SINCE 1962 WHEN IT FIRST APPEARED IN BRAZIL. THE TYPES OF COLD MIX PAVING MIXTURES AND THEIR USE AS WELL AS THE CATIONIC EMULSINS TYPE AND CHARACTERISTICS ARE DESCRIBED. TRAFFIC PROGRESS ON FREEWAYS DEMANDS A MODIFICATION IN THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR NEW HIGHWAYS. THE GRANULAR BASE COURSES AND THE HYDRAULIC MACADAM OR DRY, MUST BE ELIMINATED AND SUBSTITUTED BY BASE COURSES IN BITUMINOUS MIXTURES. THE THEORY, CONFIRMED BY EXPERIENCE, SHOWS THAT TRAFFIC CAUSES A CONCENTRATION OF SHEAR FORCES IN THE BASE COURSES. THUS THE GRANULAR TYPE BASES WITHOUT COHESION, HAVE NO RESISTANCE. THE SLOW RUPTURE CATIONIC EMULSION MAY BE USED FOR THE ASPHALT CEMENT WEARING COURSES, WITH THE INSTALLATIONS USED FOR THE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF CEMENT CONCRETE. THE FINISHING AND PROFILE, MAIN PROBLEMS OF THE HYDROCARBON ROADS, WOULD THUS BE SOLVED. BETTER CONDITIONS OF TRAFFIC AND COMFORT IN FREEWAYS COULD THEN BE ATTAINED. /RRI/
