EXPERIMENTS WITH OPEN-END VIBRATED TUBES

A SERIES OF EXPERIMENTS DESIGNED TO EXAMINE THE BEARING CAPACITY FACTORS OF VIBRATED TUBULAR PILES AS COMPARED WITH DRIVEN ONES ARE DESCRIBED. THE CONCLUSIONS ARE THAT BEARING CAPACITY OF VIBRATED TUBES IS DUE ESSENTIALLY TO TIP RESISTANCE, WHILE MANTLE FRICTION IS LIKELY TO BE NEGLIGIBLE. THE EFFICIENCY OF VIBRATION DECREASES WITH INCREASING TUBE LENGTH. /RRL/
