GENERALIZATION OF DURIEZ FORMULA FOR THE CALCULATION OF BINDER CONTENT

PAVING TECHNIQUES IN BRAZIL INCREASINGLY REFLECT THE USE OF PLANT MIXES WITH EMULSIONS FOR BOTH THE BASE AND WEARING COURSES OF BITUMINOUS PAVEMENTS. THE CLASSICAL METHODS OF HVEEM, SMITH, AND MARSHALL ARE INAPPLICABLE TO THIS PROCESS, FOR WHICH A VARIATION OF PROFESSOR DURIEZ' FORMULA WAS SELECTED THAT ALLOWS CALCULATION OF BINDER CONTENT OF BOTH COURSES FROM THE SPECIFIC SURFACE OF THE AGGREGATE. THE FORMULA CAN ALSO BE APLIED TO THE SLURRY SEAL. THE DURIEZ EQUATION WAS MODIFIED TO INCLUDE EIGHT PARAMETERS INSTEAD OF FIVE AS IN HIS ORIGINAL EQUATION. THIS METHOD IS EMPLOYED TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THE STRUCTURAL COEFFICIENTS USED IN THE OFFICIAL METHOD OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO CALCULATE DESIGN THICKNESS OF PAVEMENT LAYERS NO LONGER CORRESPOND TO REALITY AND MUST BE REVISED. /RRI/
