VIRGINIA PILE MANUAL

INFORMATION IS GIVEN CONCERNING TYPE, SELECTION, AND USE OF VARIOUS TYPES OF PILES. CONCOMITANT ADVANTAGES AND DISAVANTAGES ARE DISCUSSED ALONG WITH CURRENT METHODS AND ASSOCIATED PROBLEMS FOR PREDICTING LOAD CARRYING CAPACITIES AND SUITABLE LENGTHS OF FRICTION PILES. PERTINENT RECORDS OF PILE FOUNDATIONS FOR HIGHWAY BRIDGES CONSTRUCTED IN VIRGINIA IN RECENT YEARS ARE COMPILED IN VOLUME II. THESE RECORDS HAVE BEEN CONSOLIDATED FOR COMPUTER STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL OPERATIONS, AND A COMPLETE LISTING OF THE CONSOLIDATED DATA IS INCLUDED IN THE REPORT. INCLUDED ALSO ARE THE FINDINGS OF SEVERAL STUDIES MADE OF THE PILE DATA. DATA OBTAINED FROM LOAD TESTS OF SINGLE PILES CARRIED TO FAILURE OR TO SOME MULTIPLE OF THE DESIGN LOAD ARE CONTAINED IN VOLUME III. THESE DATA INCLUDE GEOLOGIC INFORMATION OF THE SITE, DRIVING HISTORY OF THE PILE, AND LOAD-SETTLEMENT CURVES FOR THE TEST PILE. /AUTHOR/
