RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE APPLICATION OF PLASTICS TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION /IN DUTCH/

TWO RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE APPLICATION OF PLASTICS TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION ARE DESCRIBED. IN GERMANY, TRIALS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT WITH POLYURETHANE FOAMED IN-SITU TO ACT AS AN INSULATION LAYER UNDER ROAD PAVEMENTS TO PREVENT FROST DAMAGE. IN THE U.K., EPOXY RESINS GRITTED WITH CALCINED BAUXITE HAVE BEEN USED TO PRODUCE HIGHLY SKID- RESISTANT ROAD SURFACES. THIS HAS ALREADY LED TO A REDUCTION IN THE ACCIDENT RATE ON THE TREATED SPOTS. POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS IN HOLLAND ARE DISCUSSED. /SWOV/RWL/RRL/
