STUDY OF THE ELASTIC PROPERTIES OF BITUMEN /IN SERBO- ROATIAN/

BECAUSE OF THE COMPLEX RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR OF BITUMEN UNDER LOAD, THERE EXISTS NO ACCURATE METHOD OF STATICALLY DETERMINING ITS ELASTIC PROPERTIES. A METHOD HAS BEEN PROPOSED BY HOPPLER WHICH USES THE QUASIELASTICITY MODULUS, RESISTANCE TO STRAIN, AND ELASTIC STRAIN OF BITUMEN TO DETERMINE ITS VISCOELASTIC CHARACTERISTICS. AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO POINT OUT SOME ERRORS IN THE ABOVE METHOD AND TO OUTLINE A MODIFIED, IMPROVED TECHNIQUE. A SERIES OF TESTS ON SURFACING BITUMEN WERE CARRIED OUT, AND RESULTS SHOW THAT THERE EXISTS A RELATION AMONG THE VISCOSITY OF BITUMEN, ITS MODULUS OF QUASIELASTICITY, AND THE VALUE OF RECURRENT ELASTIC STRAIN. THIS LED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE HIGH ELASTICITY OF BITUMEN IS HARDLY DEPENDENT ON ITS VISCOSITY OR TYPE BUT IS LARGELY INFLUENCED BY THE TYPE OF FILLER USED. /LCPC/(A)/RRL/
